JRK Consultants
have been running and developing a Competency Based Selection Interviewing
Skills Workshop for managers and interviewers that develops the
skills of being able to select the best candidates in a way that
is effective, efficient and fair.
Our approach succeeds because:
- It is based upon delegates using a Competency
Based Model, as recommended by current Employment Tribunal decisions,
to identify the skills, knowledge and abilities of candidates.
- The workshop is run with a delegate to
tutor ratio of 10:2. This ensures delegates get substantial and
useful feedback on their interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Video feedback is used for analysing and
reviewing the skills used.
- We use real volunteer interviewees. Typically,
these are undergraduates and Doctoral students in appropriate
disciplines, from the Universities you think are most appropriate
for your areas of work.
- We only use expert tutors with real experience
of both Facilitation and Selection Interviewing.
Workshop Content
We follow principles associated with Adult Learners - by incorporating
all stages of the learning cycle to encourage learning and retention.
The workshop will cover:
- an overview of the whole recruitment cycle
and how diversity fits in.
- the legal framework within which recruitment
and selection operates
- the basics of job/task analysis and person
specifications. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice
writing non-discriminatory versions for themselves.
- competency frameworks - what they are
and how to use them for selection. (In-house competency frameworks
can be used to re-inforce their value and ease familiarisation
for interviewers)
- assessment techniques and record keeping
- the interview - how to plan, prepare and
conduct a successful interview.Feedback will be given on the interviewing,
provided by the tutor using video feedback
Options:
*The workshop is an intensive three-day workshop. Each workshop
is limited to ten delegates, to maximise the learning, and is facilitated
by two experienced tutors.
*If required, we can arrange for additional days with one of our
associated Occupational Psychologists who can explain the principles
and practice of psychometric assessment and the design of assessment
centres.
*JRK Consultants can also carry out an audit of your current
recruitment practices and present a report, with recommendations
for action detailing good practices and areas for improvement.
*The workshop is suitable for anyone who is involved in the selection
process
*All delegates are provided with detailed workshop notes, relevant
articles and information on good practice.
